La Plaza Espanya: The Spanish Plaza

Hola.

Two nights ago, some friends and I went up to the mountain overlooking Barcelona called Montjuic (it's just a simple 10 minute metro ride). Here, on the Plaza de Espanya there is a huge fountain. Every night in the summer, there are fountain shows with music, water, and colors.

El Parc Guell: The Park Guell

Hola Familia.

It actually rains in Barcelona. The last two days were filled with lots of monsoons. BUT now we are back to paradise (78 and sunny). Today I went to Antonio Gaudi's Parc Guell. This park is located on a mountain in Barcelona. It was created by Gaudi, although it was never completely finished.

Tonight is FC Barcelona's first futbol game vs. AC Milan! Should be fun.

El Mercat de San Josep: Saint Joseph's Market

Hola.

Today, two friends from Fordham and I went on an excursion to Las Ramblas, a large pedestrian street at the city center. El Mercat de San Josep or La Boqueria is located on Las Ramblas. It is a huge outside local market with every kind of meat, fish, candy, olives, produce imaginable.

El Barrio Gotico: The Gothic Quarter

Hi All.

There is some school work to be done here. Today, I was placed in the Advanced Grammar Spanish class. Until full classes begin on the 28th we are required to have 2.5 hour daily Spanish classes. I guess it cannot be a total vacation.

Anyway, today we toured the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, which is at the city center. Although there has been some construction in the 19th and 20th centuries, most of the buildings date back to Medieval times, with some as old as the ancient Roman settlement (BC).

La Playa: The Beach

Hola.

Today, my study abroad group took a trip to Sitges, an ancient Mediterranean town about 45 minutes outside of Barcelona. The sun was hot, and the water was warm and clear! ALMOST, better than Beach Haven.

After a sun-soaked day at the beach, a little relaxation was needed at the rooftop pool at my dorm. I've also included some pictures from our roof-top terrace here. Enjoy!

Bienvenidos a Barca: Welcome to Barca

I've arrived!

After a grueling 7 hour BA flight to Heathrow, followed by a 5 hour lay-over, followed by a 2 hour flight to Barcelona, I made it to El Gran Havana.

So far, I have seen Barcelona from a cab-drive to the hotel. But I have three and 1/2 months here, so I think I will be alright.

More to come. Orientation begins tomorrow.
